Project on hold!

Well, thanks to the extreme rainfall, along with patches of sunshine, the grass just outside the backdoor, where my patio project has been started, has grown so long that before I do anything else I really need to strim and mow so that I can actually move around on the ‘lawn’ (well it will be one day lol!!).

I started strimming on Tuesday but had interruptions on Wednesday so I did not do anything yesterday. Today is the day I am hopeful to start and finish the rest of the strimming followed by mowing. Sounds crazy I know but sadly the grass has grown so much that just stimming is not enough and the mower has no way of getting through 50cm high grass and believe me there is a lot of that!

Another thing I am hoping to start is putting up the fencing along the bottom of my ‘garden’ which will divide it from the field for my food forest. Unfortunately due to the weather I have not been able to start planting in my initial section for the food forest - it has been too cold overnight - even with the past two days being a little warmer it really is not a good temperature yet to start planting.

My neighbour is hoping to come and cut the grass in all three fields this week which will make life easier. He cuts it and bales it providing food for his animals - he does me a good turn and receives something in return.

At last my apple orchard is in full bloom. Hopefully a sign of a good harvest - keeping fingers crossed. Last year was not good at all, especially in comparison to 2022 when there were so many apples on all of the trees. In fact a couple of trees in 2022 had broken branches due to the weight of the fruit hanging on.

My little Apple Orchard

Here in this photo you can see the first white blossom on some of the trees but yesterday I could see from a distance the others now have lots of pink blossom, so here’s hoping for a good harvest.

I have not yet been able to photograph the wonderful pink blossom but if my neighbour cuts the grass soon I will be able to get down the field to take a photo. Sadly the grass is so long and uneven that I can’t get to a place that would make a good photo but I am keeping my fingers crossed that as soon as the grass has been cut and baled I will be able to walk on the field and take some good photos. If so I will post them on Instagram - Vegan in Galicia.

Right now I need to stop writing and get out and strim. So I will keep you updated as much as possible. Thanks for reading.
