New project in the garden

Although Spring is here it is still quite cold outside, however, as the wind was not so strong today I thought it was time to start on a patio next to my peach tree, the one in the blog picture, and outside my picture window. At the moment it is all grass so first job was to put down lots of the cardboard that has been accumulating in the barn. This in itself was quite easy and I was fired up to wet it down thoroughly and then collect sand from the front of the house. Having no wind made the wetting down easy thankfully. Getting the sand in the wheelbarrow and wheeling it up and round the house was not so easy and I have to say after having filled the wheelbarrow four times and distributed it over the cardboard I was exhausted.

This was how the cardboard looked after my first wheelbarrow of sand - don’t you just love the old wheelbarrow (left here by the previous owners).

.

This was how it looked after I had completed covering it with sand. I also, as you can see, put a lot of slate around to keep it down in case the wind started up again. I also took the hose to it and made sure the sand was soaked as well.

This will then be covered in slate, as I have an abundance all around the property. So on another nice day I will have a go at placing the slabs of slate around to make a lovely patio. I will try and keep you updated on what I am doing in and around the property.

It will be a very good way for me to remember what I do each week. At the moment when I speak to my sister at the weekend I have trouble remembering all that I have done so this will be a good way to record my progress.
