Everything growing like crazy!!

Plants in the pictures below are literally exploding out of my container bed. They are the survivors of three seed plantings that due to the weird summer weather did not take off at all. Strange as it may seem these survivors came about when I gave up on the last seed plantings and just emptied the pots of compost which contained the seeds into the container bed to increase the level for other plantings I was thinking of doing later in the year. Lo and behold I suddenly had squash, potatoes, aubergines and the one cucumber plant appearing as if out of nowhere. It could of course be down to a sudden sunny spell in the weather late July, early August. Unfortunately a little late for most of these to produce fruits but I am so happy with those that have. Inside the container bed are the potatoes - I am sure they will be producing some potatoes for me - the aubergine plants which I feel will not be able to produce any fruit due to the cold and wet weather we are now having and the squash may be a little late in starting too. In contrast the cucumber is epic and producing so many tasty mini cucumbers. Also, in the background, you can see the Jerusalem Artichokes with their beautiful yellow flowers that have appeared from last year’s crop that I missed when harvesting.

From one little seed

This is my European Mini Cucumber plant that is growing like crazy. Just one little seed has turned into this huge plant producing the tastiest cucumbers - small Spanish style - I have ever eaten. It has taken over the side of the container bed and growing up over the top as well as down towards the ground. I am totally amazed especially considering the weather recently at just how many cucumbers it is producing.

Surprise Plants

The Nasturtium are from last year - planted in the container bed - seeds must have fallen over the side. The squash now growing over the side are from my ‘throwaway’ compost, amazing how they came up so quickly in this bed. Alas I think too late to produce a crop this year. Then the tall willowy flowers - Jerusalem Artichokes - flowing gently in the wind, also from last year’s crop. What you cannot see are the potatoes and aubergines growing within the bed and hidden by the huge leaves of both the cucumber and squash plants.
