The Adventure Began in July 2022

My home in Mallorca sold and I made my way over to Galicia, to my new home, where the adventure began at the end of July 2022. I had the support of my daughter and a friend who helped me move with eight cats into an unknown world, an unknown house and the fulfilment of a dream which had been a long time coming. So, so exciting!!

My new home was built in 1940 and although it had been looked after and I was more than able to live in it, there was much to do, and there still is two years on, to make it the home of my dreams. There have been many hiccups along the way which included getting past the rules and regulations of what you can or can’t do. I needed to drill a well as the spring water that was available was not enough to even shower with, it was little more than a trickle. I also needed to up my electricity potency as, of course, with no-one living there for many years there was no need to have much electricity at all. My dream of immediately getting solar panels would have to wait due to rules and regulations, authorisations etc. so it was better to have more potency in order to be able to do more than turn the lights on and keep the fridge going without the electricity cutting out. I also found the barns, lovely big barns next to the house had asbestos roofing so another huge expense as they needed to go and the floors, used for cattle and all the grids etc. that went with them, I could not in all honesty walk on safely so they needed to be levelled .

Regardless of all that I needed to do the feeling of coming home was amazing. I love the house and I love the land and forests that are part of this amazing farm which I now call home. A crazy adventure, perhaps, but the fulfilment of my dreams is an ongoing adventure which I am enjoying even with all the ’hiccups’ . This was by far the best decision ever for me and I am so grateful to all of those around me, family and friends, who have helped me make my dreams come true.

As I said there is still much to do but I am not in a hurry, I know what I want to do, how I want to do it and am going to be doing as much as I can myself. It is so incredible when you look at what needs doing and instead of saying no I can’t do that you say I will give it a go. The feeling when you do achieve something that makes life a little easier, makes things look better or makes things work is such a boost to my soul.

Two years on I absolutely love living here, I have made some wonderful friends and found amazing people to help me. The people in the area where I live, to the north-east of Lugo in Galicia, are so very friendly and helpful as well as being very patience with me and all of the questions I seem to have.

Within the next few weeks I will be doing my best to start a new blog and although I cannot catch up on all that has happened over the past two years I can let you know what is happening now and how things are moving forward towards my dreams on this amazing farm in Galicia.
